Course Content
Origin and composition of the solar system. Geological framework of the Earth. Classification and origin of the rocks. Magmatic, sedimentary and metamorphic processes. Stratigraphy. Structural Geology and Tectonics (deformation of the rocks, faulting, folding, orogenic belts, Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics). Marine Geology. Geophysics (seismology, gravimetry, magnetism, heat flow and geothermics). Geological outline of the Northern Apennines Chain.

Basical knownledge about Earth Sciences and, in particular, about lithology, stratigraphy, structural geology, geodynamics, geophysics and geological mapping
Analitical competence of the geological processes and of the rocks derived from them in the past and in the present. Competence in the analysis and synthesis of the geological evolution of a given area.
Skill for the recognition of the different types of rocks and to reconstruct their evolution from their genetic environments; skills to read, to interpret and to synthetize the geological maps and to prepare geological cross-sections
