A general overview of classical physics with emphasis on subjects relevant to geologists.

Reminders of calculus and vector calculus. Basic elements of mechanics. Newton laws. Conservation laws. Mechanics of rigid bodies. Fluid mechanics: pressure, surface tension, capillarity. Elasticity. Introduction to thermodynamics: temperature and heat capacity. Work and heat.
First and second law of thermodynamics. Non-equilibrium thermodynamics: heat conduction and viscosity. Wave mechanics.
Basic notions of electromagnetics: charge and electric field. Gauss theorem. Electrical potential. Conductors and dielectrics. Stationary currents and magnetic fields. Maxwell equations in integral form and electromagnetic waves.
